Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30, Pomme de Terre United Methodist Church, under the direction of Cantlon Otterness Funeral Home of Urbana. Burial in Fischer Cemetery. Visitation: 1 to 2 p.m. prior to service at the church.

The Rev. Ellen Hoff officiated. Music provided by Jo Hodge. Memorials may be made to Pomme de Terre UMC, American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association and left with the funeral home. Online condolences can be made at cantlonotterness.com.

Allene Carr (Powell) Wood, 90, was born Jan. 21, 1925, in Howard County near Rocheport, the only child of Murel Glen and Martha Blanche (Carr) Powell. She died Nov. 27, 2015, in her home east of Preston.

She was reared in Columbia, graduated from Hickman High School, and attended Southwest Baptist College to obtain her teaching certification.

She was united in marriage with John Atlee Wood from Kansas City on May 22, 1945.

In 1968 they moved from Independence to Preston. They loved the farm where they raised cattle and other livestock throughout different times of their lives.

She was an accomplished seamstress and was known for her work with custom draperies and window treatments. She also worked for the Missouri Crop and Livestock Reporting Service before retiring on the farm.

She enjoyed sewing, cooking, attending church, teaching Sunday school and spending time with family and friends.

Allene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her grandson, Joey Doss.

Survivors include her two sons: John and wife, Caroline Wood, Preston, and Glen Wood, Aurora, Colo.; a daughter, Marti Berlin, Preston; grandchildren: Wendy Wood, Preston, Rebecca and husband, Justin Doss, Lees Summit, and Rachel and husband, Andy Butler, Arnold; great-grandchildren: Maci Johnson, Madison Wood, Maegan Wood, Braden Butler and Noah Doss; a great-great-grandchild, Jericho Johnson; and other family members and friends who will miss her greatly.
