Betty M. Bonney, 93, was born April 28, 1922, in Fort Wayne, Ind., the daughter of Roscoe and Clarice (Clements) Ellingwood. She died Oct. 26, 2015, at her home in Buffalo.

As a girl she was an early Girl Scout in 1933-1934 and spoke also of ice skating with her great-grandfather, Rufus Hinga. Her parents spoiled her with a new bicycle in the midst of the Great Depression.

She was able to live in her home since 1993 with the help of her family and her neighbor and friend, Nicki Sawyer.

She loved camping, fishing, swimming and nature, especially wolves and dogs.

She loved reading and vocabulary, and her children were teachers at various times in their lives.

She was united in marriage with Benedict J. Schaefer. They were married for 25 years. He died in 1973.

She later married Alva Bonney, who died in 1996.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and her brother, Roy Ellingwood.

Survivors include her three children: Dr. Judith Personett, Spokane, Wash., and children, Katrina, Christopher and Timothy Personett; Thomas and wife, Maryann Schaefer, Bentonville, Ark., and children, Chad and Tom Schaefer, and Sarah (Schaefer) Petrie; and Jeanne Rowe, Buffalo and children, Elizabeth Rowe, Missouri, and Catherine Rowe, Minnesota; and eight great-grandchildren.
