Billy “Bill” Lee Horton, 80, formerly of Independence, was born Sept. 3, 1934, in Omage, Ark., the son of Bunyan and Della (Morrison) Horton. He died May 7, 2015.

He was united in marriage with Evelyn Treat on Dec. 17, 1955, in Searcy County, Ark. Together they raised six children.

They moved to Kansas City in 1959, where he worked for Prier Brass Manufacturing Company for 29 years. Then he went to work for LPF Plastics for five years before retirement.

He loved to be outdoors, always tinkering with something. Early on, he enjoyed  coon hunting and bowling. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting other game, and watching wrestling, Royals baseball and the Kansas City Chiefs.

For the last 13 years he and his wife enjoyed a new life in Macks Creek. His family remembers him as funny, joyful, and a giving, simple man who faithfully loved his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a half sister; three half brothers; and a grandson, Gary Donovan “Joey” Horton.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Evelyn; four daughters: Billie and husband, Earl Brown, Rene Stidham, Sonia and husband, Victor Gonzalez, and Becky and husband, Brian Brewer; two sons: Bobby and wife, Jenelle Horton and Gary Horton; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; his brother, Eugene “Jitter” and wife, Sue Horton; and his beloved dog, Coco.
