BURGESS “BUD” BADGETT

Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9, Bible Baptist Church, Mo. 32 and South Locust, in Buffalo. Cremation rites were accorded by Montgomery-Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo. A private family gathering will follow services. Burial at 2 p.m. in Pleasant View Cemetery, Elkland.

Burgess “Bud” Badgett, 80, was born Dec. 27, 1935, in Fairmont, W.Va.m the son of Anda and Grace (Cottrell) Badgett. He died March 31, 2016, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was united in marriage with Marjorie Joan Gittins on Sept. 2, 1955. They reared their family in the Salt Lake City, area.

He was an over-the-road truck driver for more than 30 years. He was awarded Ryder Truck Driver of the Year in 1981, having driven 3.5 million accident-free miles.

In 1985 they moved to Elkland, where he drove for the York Casket Co. in Marshfield and also began raising cattle. After his wife died, he moved to Louisburg and continued to raise cattle.

He was a talented mechanic and enjoyed working in his garage. He loved to travel and during the past few years traveled with his girlfriend, Judy Middleton.

He enjoyed watching Westerns, and playing cards and games with family and friends.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 35 years, Marge, in 1990; his oldest son, Blaine Badgett; an infant great-granddaughter, Olivia Lane; a brother, Alvin Badgett; and a sister, Maude Atkins.

Survivors include his five sons: Greg Badgett and Bud Badgett, both of West Valley City, Utah, Randy and wife, Kelly Badgett, Buffalo, Gordon and wife, Brandy Badgett, Marshfield, and Michael and wife, Katie Badgett, Centerton, Ark.; one daughter, Kathy and husband, Steve McEntee, Fordland; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Badgett, Lebanon; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren with two on the way; his girlfriend of 10 years, Judy Middleton, Louisburg; three sisters: Karen Ann Hicks, Phyllis Morris and Gladys Woodmansee; and many other family and friends who truly will miss him.
