Chancy Reth, 90, was born March 1, 1927, in Iowa. He died Dec. 24, 2017, at Citizens Memorial Hospital, Bolivar.

He and his mother moved to Long Lane. He met his future wife and the love of his life, Bethel. They were united in marriage on Oct. 18, 1947, and started a farm and a family in Long Lane.

He worked as a bus driver and at a local gas company. They moved in 1950 to San Diego, where he worked at Convair and General Dynamics as a machinist building planes and participating in the Atlas space program.

Upon his retirement, they returned to Long Lane, where they farmed a little and enjoyed country life and the community.

He was a member of the Pisgah Baptist Church and the Long Lane Lions Club, and a Long Lane volunteer firefighter. He and Ray Hicks were instrumental in forming the Long Lane Jam Session, which was held every Thursday night at the old and the new Long Lane Lions Club. This jam session entertained people for more than 25 years.

Survivors include his three children: Marcy Parker, Randy Reth and Rick Reth; two grandchildren: Michael and Matthew Parker; and four great-grandchildren: Sean, Lauren, Bailey and Matthew II.
