Dudley B. Huckaby, 91, of Buffalo, formerly of Bolivar, was born May 11, 1926, in Polk County, the son of Bertie Elva and Inez Jean (Vincent) Huckaby. He died March 16, 2018, at Colonial Springs Healthcare Facility, Buffalo, with family by his side.

On Oct. 20, 1946, he was united in marriage with Christena Bridges.

He was a past board member of the Urbana MFA and a Hopewell Cemetery board member.

He was saved and a member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, and he later moved his membership to Southside Missionary Baptist Church, Bolivar.

In 1970, he and John together had more than 1,000 head of fattening hogs and more than 300 head of cattle. He also spread lime and fertilizer for several years. He helped other farmers when needed, and they helped him.

After they sold the farm in the early 1980s and moved to Bolivar, Christena told Dudley to get a job because she was tired of his following her around the house. He became a door greeter at the Bolivar Walmart and received his 10-year plaque.

He was a jokester, but loved his church, family and friends.

Dudley was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 63 years, Christena Huckaby; a grandson, Jason Charlton; a son in-law, Paul Charlton; two infant brothers; a brother in-law, James Scott; a great-grandchild, Caleb Smith; and a cousin, Janice Barham.

Survivors include three children: Beverly and husband, Van McCoy, Springfield, Marilyn Charlton, Urbana, and John and wife, Linda Huckaby, Marshfield; seven grandchildren: Randy McCoy, Matt and wife, Misty McCoy, Kayla and husband, Bruce Carrico, Travis and wife, Sarah McCoy, Tammy and husband, Roger Smith, Kelly Earls and Terri Swearingin; 23 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Geraldine Scott and husband, Warren Dampf, Columbia; a granddaughter-in-law, Jenny Charlton, Urbana; two sisters-in-law: Aleina Waggoner and Genevieve Bridges, both of Independence; a cousin, Deral Joe and wife, Joan Vincent, Bolivar; and many other relatives, friends and church families.
