Dylan Ray Hedgepath, 17, was born Nov. 14, 1999, in Blue Springs, the son of Terry Hedgepath and Carla Barker. He died March 11, 2017, in Louisburg.

He was raised in Pittsburg and Urbana, and attended Skyline High School.

He loved playing football and putting on his suit and participating in FBLA. He was everyone’s friend, and was smart, funny and full of life.

He loved the guys on his team, hanging out with his friends, fishing with Bobby and Tommy, and riding the dirt roads with his trusty sidekick and little brother, Wyatt.

He also enjoyed riding in the Walmart truck with his dad, reading the map for him and monitoring the weather. Hunting and riding four-wheelers were other favorite activities.

He recently had made the decision to serve his country by signing up for the National Guard. He was like a cruise director, always making sure everyone was having fun and enjoying life. He fit a lot of living into 17 years.

Dylan was preceded in death by one brother, Ryan Gifford; maternal grandfather, Carl Barker; and paternal grandfather, Dwayne Hedgepath.

Survivors include his parents: Terry Hedgepath, Pittsburg, and Carla Barker and Danny Thomas, Urbana; five brothers: Christopher and wife, Amy Gifford, Independence, Wyatt Hedgepath, Urbana, Roger Hedgepath, Sleeper, Richard and wife, Pamela Hedgepath, Kansas City, and Robert and wife, Rebekah Hedgepath, St. Robert; one sister, Elizabeth Gifford, Independence; paternal grandmother, Barbara Hedgepath, Buffalo; maternal grandmothers: Grace Cella, Blue Springs, and Penny Barker, Clinton; paternal great-grandmother, Thelma Doty, Buffalo; his black Lab, Athena, whom he rescued and raised; and other family members and many friends who will all truly miss him.
