Helen Rosetta Smith, 91, was born Jan. 15, 1917, in Kendricktown, the daughter of George Riley and Mary Naomi (Maynard) Stafford. She met Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior on March 1, 2008.

She was united in marriage with Grover Cleveland Smith on June 16, 1934. They had three children.

She was saved at the age of 13 years at the Methodist Church in Kendricktown. She took on the job of homemaker at the young age of 12 after the death of her mother. This responsibility at such a young age prepared her for the rest of her life. She later worked as a powder-dipper during World War II at Pittsburg, Kan.

She and her husband, owned and operated the White Rock Cafe in Carthage for eight years. She earned 735 hours at a certified cooking school.

She was a loving, caring, tender-hearted woman. She shared all she had with anyone and everyone. If she had $2 she would give one away. She was very precise with her instructions to her family and an extremely loyal friend. If you would choOse to learn she had a lot to show you.

She read all the time, mostly about doctoring. She never held back to coach, guide, encourage, lend a helping hand and always had a suggestion for any and all ailments. She never quit talking about what she would do to help.

She could remember it all and loved to visit about the years and times gone by. The many fishing trips, hunting trips, family gatherings, cooking and canning, sewing and cleaning, flowers and gardens, card playing and bingo, and the many different excursions in the Volkswagens.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 73 years, Grover, in October 2007; her son, Gary Cleveland Smith in October 1996; a stillborn son in 1935; and an infant great-granddaughter, Melinda Quessenberry, in December 1985.

Survivors include her daughter, Bonnie K. and husband, Noel Quessenberry, whom she thought of as a son; six grandchildren and their spouses; 15 great-grandchildren ranging in age from 6 to 29; eight great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends who all knew her and loved her as Granny.
