Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, Montgomery-Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo. Burial in Missouri Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.

Robert Earl Waits will officiate.

Escorts are Paul Torrey, Eddy Torrey, Franklin Reeves, John Clemmons, Terry Brauch and Doug Brethower. Honorary escorts are Bill Case, Tommy Martin and James Tate.

John Wayne “J.W.” Martin, 78, was born Nov. 1, 1936, in Sulphur, Okla., the son of Ben Franklin and Della Jane Martin. He died July 30, 2015.

He served his country by serving 20 plus years in the U.S. Air Force, as a Vietnam veteran and master sergeant. He retired at the age of 37, and moved his family to Buffalo.

For the next 23 years he was well-known for his cattle farming, and as a school bus mechanic and driver for Buffalo Schools.

J.W. was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Warren Franklin Martin, James Houston Martin and Don Martin; a sister: Ima Jean Welty; and his two wives: Nedra Marzell Martin and Phyllis Martin;

Survivors include his two brothers: Tommy Martin, Sulphur, Okla., and Jack Martin, Mesquite, Texas; four sisters: Nora Welty, Okmulgee, Okla., Norma Hicks, Yukon, Okla., Mary Waits, Okmulgee, Okla., and Rita Martin, Checotah, Okla.; eight children: Sheena M. Martin, Fort Sumner, N.M., Kenneth R. Martin, Oklahoma City, Okla., Lana K. Hutchison, Albuquerque, N.M., Carolyn R. Clifton, Las Cruces, N.M., John W. Martin. Chicago, Ill., Edd Torrey, David Torrey and Mike Torrey, all of Buffalo; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
