Graveside service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, National Cemetery in Springfield, with full military honors. Arrangements are under the direction of Hathaway-Peterman Funeral Home, Wheatland. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Larry Garamillo, 90, was born May 1, 1925, in Pinos Wells, N.M., one of nine children. He died June 26, 2015.

He left high school to join the U.S. Army, where he was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart. Returning from the war, he graduated from Overton, Neb., High School.

He was united in marriage with Barbara Harris in Springfield in 1946. They moved to Kansas City where he worked and retired from the Social Security Administration.

They relocated to Hermitage where he became active in the community. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and past commander of the American Legion. He was also a Silver Haired Legislator, and a 30-year member of the McCarty Wheatland Senior Center, where he delivered Meals on Wheels for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Barbara; four children: Larry Garamillo, Cathey Creel, Penny Swearingen and Cecil Wise; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
