Funeral services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5 at Buffalo United Methodist Church. Burial at Memorial Gardens of Memory under the direction of Cantlon Otterness Funeral Home of Buffalo. Visitation: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Lois Kjar, daughter of the late Frank H. and Ethel (Barrett) Owen, was born June 14, 1918. She died Aug. 1, 2015, at her home in Buffalo at the age of 97.

She was reared and attended school in Ingham, Neb., where she married Marvin Kjar. They moved to the area around Tryon, Neb., where they lived until 1955, when they moved to Buffalo.

She was primarily a homemaker, raising her eight children, but had also worked as a clerk at Dale’s dry goods store. In her later years she volunteered at Heart2Heart and Colonial Springs.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church for 60 years, where she served as church librarian and historian as well as taking part in the Lydia Circle.

She loved making quilts for all of her grandchildren, was a 4-H leader, a member of the Extension Club in both Nebraska and Missouri, a member of the Red Hat Society, and a member of the Cattlemen’s Association.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin Kjar; her son, James Marvin Kjar; her brother, John C. Owen; her three sisters: Gail Wesch, Ruth Nichelson and Janet Kelly; her grandson Jorge Eric Kjar; and her great-grandson, James Davis Kjar.

Survivors include one sister, Lila Maline of North Platte, Neb.; three sons: Dean and wife, Patsy Kjar, Elkland, Melvin and wife, Myong Kjar, Hernando, Miss., Owen and wife, Sharon Kjar, Buffalo; four daughters, Lavon Gish, Columbia, Mary and husband, Tom Roberts, Lees Summit, Ona and husband, Dean Cline, Long Lane, and Gwen and husband Bobby Kirk, Tunas; a daughter-in-law, Patty Kjar; 24 grandchildren; over 50 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family who will all truly miss her.
