MARION “DALE” HARRIS

Posted

Memorial service: 2 p.m. May 21, First Southern Baptist Church in Chino Valley, Ariz.

Marion “Dale” Harris, 82, was born April 22, 1933, in the family home near Windyville. He died April 20, 2016, at his home in Chino Valley, Ariz.

He was the seventh of eight children and lived many years on the family farm outside Buffalo.

Shortly after graduating from Buffalo High School he left home and a year later entered the U.S. Army. He served three years before his honorable discharge in 1956. He was quite patriotic and took pride in his year of military service.

He married Darlyne Leavenworth on May 17, 1957. Years later he married Yvonne Rose and with this marriage he became stepfather to two daughters. He also became a grandfather to Gigi and helped raise her in her early years.

During his career, he worked for many years for American Can Co. and worked his way up the ranks to become a key lithographer. He took pride in the images they transferred onto metal surfaces. His work there also led to another source of pride, his membership in the Teamsters.

In his leisure time, he enjoyed gardening, collecting — with a weakness for timepieces and coins — watching western movies and exchanging stories and opinions with family and friends.

He enjoyed visits to the senior center and the friendships he shared with many of his neighbors in and around his Country West neighborhood. He always looked forward to his exercise walks through the area, and these were often carefully timed to connect with other people along the way.

His faith was very important to him. He enjoyed the fellowship at First Southern Baptist and most importantly his personal relationship with his Savior.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and six siblings.

Survivors include his children: Kimella, Oregon, Bea, Nevada, and Michael, Indiana; two stepdaughters: Teresa and Patricia; his brother, Don Harris, Kahoka; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
