Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, Lindley Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Burial in Lindley Creek Cemetery, under the direction of Cantlon Otterness & Viets Funeral Home, Buffalo. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 2, at the funeral home.

Bro. Jeff Shelenhamer and Pastor Ervin Friend will officiate.

Escorts will be Russ Weeks, Tyler Weeks, Mark Zurbick, Mike Hammerbacher, Randy Hammerbacher and Larry Moore. Honorary escorts will be Tuff Hamlet and Rex Hamlet.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Louisburg Lions Club, the Veterans Administration or the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.

Milfred Dale Hammerbacher, 89, was born Feb. 8, 1929, in Louisburg, the son of Walter and Elizabeth “Lizzie” (Moore) Hammerbacher. He died March 30, 2018, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in Long Lane.

He was saved in a revival at Lindley Creek Missionary Baptist Church at the age of 16.

He graduated from Louisburg High School in 1946. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

On Sept. 12, 1954, he was united in marriage with Willo Dean Vest in Buffalo.

They moved to Raytown, and he went to work for Hallmark Cards. They resided there until his retirement in 1989. After his retirement, they moved back to Buffalo.

He was a member of the Louisburg Lions Club and Lindley Creek Missionary Baptist Church.

Milfred was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Willo Dean; his parents; five siblings; and one granddaughter, Christy Hammerbacher.

Survivors include his sons: Milfred Jr. “Spud” and wife, Pat Hammerbacher, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, and Scott and wife, Roberta Hammerbacher, Buffalo; one daughter, Skyla and husband, Russ Weeks, Long Lane; two grandsons: Tyler and wife, Brittany Weeks, who was an essential part of his caregiving, and Billy and wife, Jessi Dotson, Ohio; two granddaughters: Ashley Hammerbacher, San Francisco, and Kari and husband, Ryan Lacson, Republic; six great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Norma Vest, Buffalo, and Georgia Hammerbacher, Kansas; one brother-in-law, Tuff Hamlet, Louisburg; and a multitude of nephews, nieces and friends who all will miss him greatly.
