Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, New Hope Baptist Church. Burial in New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Cantlon Otterness & Viets Funeral Home, Buffalo, Mo. Visitation: 10 a.m. to service time at the church.

The Rev. Richard Prater will officiate.

Vernon Leroy Frantz, 82, was born Oct. 13, 1935, in Warsaw, Ind., the son of Floyd A. and Lucile (Franks) Frantz. He died Sept. 11, 2018, at Pine Lodge Residential Care, Buffalo.

He was reared and attended school in Warsaw, Ind.

After his schooling, he moved to Arizona, where he began his career as a carpenter. He built houses and cabinets, and did masonry work.

He met and later was united in marriage with Bernice Parris. They made their home in Arizona for a short time before moving to Buffalo in 1962. He continued his carpentry work and taught the vo-tech building trades class for 13 years.

He was a member and deacon of New Hope Baptist Church, and was the song leader for nearly 45 years. He loved his church and church family, and never missed a service. He was also a member of Gideons International in Buffalo.

In his spare time, he enjoyed working on old tractors.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; and one daughter, Rachel Akins.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice, of the home; two sons: David and wife, Carissa Frantz, Grovespring, Mo., and Matthew and wife, Diane Frantz, Louisburg, Mo.; two daughters: Valerie and husband, Eugene George, Strafford, Mo., and Martha and husband, Mike Lewis, Long Lane, Mo.; son-in-law, Jeff Akins, Buffalo; one brother, Alton and wife, Juanita Frantz, Warsaw, Ind.; 14 grandchildren: Jennifer and husband, Daniel Herron, Becky and husband, Michael Nichols, Jessica George, Nathan George, Jessica and husband, Chris Longstreet, Trina Frantz, Jacob Frantz, Steven and wife, Ashley Frantz, Adam Frantz, Andy and wife, Amanda Lewis, Brandon and wife, Darcy Lewis, Casi and husband, Josh Burchell, Jeffrey and wife, Ashley Akins, and Brittney Akins; 19 great-grandchildren; and other family members and many friends who all truly will miss him.
