He was a graduate of Howard Payne University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and was an ordained Baptist minister.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army Chaplain Corps in 1963, served six months active duty and then continued in the Reserve until 1974, when he was honorably discharged with the rank of first lieutenant. He served as pastor of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Lovingston, Va., and Fort Lewis Baptist Church in Salem, Va.

On Feb. 17, 1973, he was united in marriage with Rachael Faye Paschall.

Although he served only a short time as a pastor, he was a strong believer in Christ, a faithful husband and companion to his wife, and beloved dad to his children, who will all greatly miss him.
