Our commander, Melissa Hernandez, and her adjutant have been in Orlando, Fla., for the annual DAV National Convention. We look forward to sharing all we have learned and what is coming about in the future.

While we have been in Orlando, the DAV Auxiliary has conducted its semi-annual rummage sale, as the children are getting ready to start back to school soon.

Upcoming events include a chapter picnic in September for chapter members and their families to get together outside of the chapter for an afternoon of fun and games. Also in the works is an event in October for all the area’s female veterans. The primary goal is to spread the word about current medical care and benefits available for our sisters in arms.

This brings up another matter. Rumors have been flying around that DAV Chapter 62 was going to shut its doors and close down. Also someone has told the Blue Jam Session group that comes to the hall every Tuesday (except meeting nights) that it was no longer welcome and must find another venue.

Rest assured, neither of these rumors are true. An investigation is under way to determine who started these. The chapter has been and will always be focused on serving veterans in the area as best we can. And the Jam Session is welcome to return if they so desire.

In the future, the commander asks that if you hear someone spreading any further rumors of our closing, please correct them and if needed, send the commander a note to P.O. Box 1036, Buffalo, MO 65622.
