By collecting clock radios for veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder, local organizers hope to help the veterans during their time in counseling. The clock radios will be delivered to a facility in Kansas where veterans live from six months to a year to get in-house counseling and help with a PTSD diagnosis.

Sue Swanigan, from Woof for Vets, met a veteran through her work, placing dogs with veterans. The residents at the Kansas facility do not have a television in their rooms. By collecting new and gently used clock radios, the recovering vets can have music and alarms for their rooms.

Swanigan needs the donations by March 13. The radios will be sent to the facility March 14.

Clubs and organizations are invited to help collect radios. If volunteers purchase clock radios at Walmart, they can leave the package at the customer service desk for pickup. The organizers are happy to pick up donations; call Swanigan at (417) 399-9047.

“Make sure you put your name on, and I will post it on the radios, or the veterans can see who gave the radios. If you belong to a church or an organization, please talk to them about helping us,” Swanigan said.
