Lottie Magalene “Maggie” Johnson

Lottie Magalene “Maggie” Johnson, daughter of the late Virgil and Golda Minor, was born on July 22, 1923 in Springfield, Missouri. She departed this life on January 8, 2021 at her home in Fair Grove, Missouri, surrounded by family. At the time of her passing she was 97 years of age.

Maggie was united in marriage to Harry “Junior” Johnson on September 8, 1951. She worked side by side with Junior on their farm taking care of beef cattle, growing a delicious garden, and raising loving daughters.

Maggie was passionate about anything outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting. She was also skilled at sewing, canning and anything mechanical. She was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who valued her family above all.

Maggie, the eldest of thirteen siblings, was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry “Junior” Johnson; five sisters, Naydene, Geraldene, Betty, Loma, and Connie; five brothers, Edward, Jackie, Bill, Clovis, and Jerry; one daughter, Shirley Wiles; one grandson, Mark Wiles.

She is survived by two daughters and their families, Judy and husband Buford Cross of Buffalo, MO, Vicky and husband Robert Hill of Fair Grove, MO; five grandsons and one granddaughter, Mike and wife Susie Wiles, Melissa Cross, Allen Cross, Jason Cross, Paul and wife Nia Hill, Tony and wife Aundrea Hill; nine great-grandchildren, Dalton Cross, Katelynn Cross, Tristin Cross, Garrett Cross, Easton Hill, Aiden Hill, Sutton Hill, Ansley Hill, and Hayden Hill; one brother, Joe and his wife DeDe Minor; one sister, Sharon and her husband Bill Skapyak; and one sister-in-law Retha Minor. She also leaves behind other family members and many friends who will truly miss her.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12 at Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home in Buffalo, MO.

A graveside service will be held at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Fair Grove, MO on Wednesday, January 13 at 10:00 a.m. with Chaplain Bill Niebuhr officiating. Escorts will be Robert Hill, Tony Hill, Paul Hill, Buford Cross, Jason Cross, and Mike Wiles. Honorary escorts will be Greg Alsup, Bill Pomeroy, Kenny Tracey, and Bill Turner.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Seasons Hospice in Springfield.
