Marvin Duggan was born in Mansfield, MO on December 6, 1932 to Alfred & Chlora (Buhler) Duggan, the 4th of 7 children and passed away September 9, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO after a short illness, with his family at his side.

Marvin attended grade school in the Mansfield, MO area until 8th grade at which time he stopped his education to help his father support his mother & 6 sisters.

After working at several jobs, he joined the US Navy shortly after his 18th birthday in early January of 1951. He was honorably discharged on November 4, 1954 & returned to the Mansfield area. Being a child of the depression era, he realized early on the importance of frugality which carried over into his later years.

In 1962 he met Kimberley Sherwood who became his wife on May 1, 1963 in Miami, OK. They have two children, son Marc and daughter, Melissa Mann. After marrying he and his wife as well as his mother and father-in-law moved north of Buffalo, MO & engaged in farming from 1963 to present date.

Marvin worked for MFA in Buffalo as a driver from 1992-1999 at which time he retired. He served as a District Supervisor on the Dallas County Soil & Water Board from 1982-1992. He served twice on the Dallas County Farm Bureau as a board member.

He taught his children to fish and later, taught his son, son-in-law, and grandson to hunt deer and turkey when they became plentiful as he was an excellent marksman. He loved deep fried turkey breast as well as deer meat.

In his more recent years after semi-retirement of farming, he became the chief miniature donkey sitter for neighbors when they went to contests. He liked playing with them. He was also an animal lover.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters.

He leaves his wife Kimberley of 56 years; son, Marc of the home; daughter, Melissa Mann & husband Tony; granddaughter, Morgan of Nixa, MO; and grandson, Ryan of Nixa, MO; one sister, Clara Jones of Mansfield, MO; and many nieces and nephews and his beloved Pomeranian, Snookie.

He was a very caring husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He will be remembered as the “person who didn’t like to tell someone no” and always eager to help anytime any place.

Visitation was held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 16, 2019 at the Cantlon Otterness & Viets Funeral Home in Buffalo. In lieu of flowers donations to the University of Missouri School of Veterinary Medicine would be appreciated. Condolences and online register book entries may be left at www.cantlonotterness.com.
