“If you see someone coming with lights and sirens, slow down, pull to the right, and stop.” That’s the number one thing Explorer Fire Captain, Lucas Cole, of the Southern Dallas County Fire Protection District (SDCFPD) would ask the world to do to make the job of firefighters and rescuers easier. “It could help us respond more quickly and possibly save lives and property.” more
OACAC Dallas County Neighborhood Center held their annual Back to School Bash on Wednesday, August 14, at Grace Community Church in Buffalo. This event is celebrating their 26th year of providing back to school supplies for low-income children of Dallas County. The purpose of this event is to provide basic needs in hopes of having successful and confident students. The services and supplies are donated through contributions from local Dallas County businesses and the money raised from the New to You Shop provides each child with a voucher for a new pair of shoes from Shoe Carnival.  more
Greg Armstrong, owner of Armstrong Concrete Construction in Buffalo, is officially retiring as the head of the company, which he has run since 1977. He is transferring ownership to his son, Dusty Armstrong, and grandson, Dayton Armstrong. Greg remarked, “I’m gonna let Dusty and Dayton boss me around for a while.” more
Buffalo High School is undergoing a huge change to its landscape with the addition of a state-of-the-art facility that will house the weightlifting class, wrestling, and new concession stand, as well as lockers and storage for the students and coaches in the sporting activities and physical education classes. more

The Buffalo Garden Club held its July meeting at 12 p.m. on Thursday the 25th. Janet called the meeting to order. Because our speaker is from outside the club, we had our business meeting before the speaker was scheduled to arrive. The members attending were Lisa Blake, Darlene Dufeck, Lenora Erb, Shirley Hyatt, Thelma Kurtz, Penny Nevills, Kim Rutherford, Jeanie Smith, Hope Stubbs, Liz Van Dee, and Janet Wood.  more
The small farm that I grew up on was located in eastern Dallas County, about three miles SE of Long Lane.  There was a small creek (Dousinbury- spelling on Google Earth, Deusenberry- spelling in Glen "Boone" Skinner's book, The Big Niangua River) that ran through the middle of my dad's farm. more

The AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program is looking for seniors who are 55 years old or over and are interested in volunteering at schools, child care centers, daycares, and/or youth centers in the community. The program pairs seniors with children who need mentoring/tutoring in the areas of reading, math, and social/emotional skills. more
HiSet Preparation classes for Adults looking to take their High School Equivalency Test are starting back up for the fall session in Buffalo on August 20. These classes are offered by the Adult Education Department of Ozarks Technical Community College, in partnership with the Dallas County R-1 School District. Classes are free and open to students 17 or older who are not currently enrolled in school.  more
