The Urbana Easter Egg Hunt and Festival will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, at the First Baptist Church of Urbana, 207 W. Broadway Street, Urbana. The City of Urbana and First Baptist Church of Urbana will present and host the event. more
AmVets Post 117 will host a Chili Cook-off from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 16. To compete in the cook-off, there is an entry fee of $10.00 and a cost of $5.00 to eat. First and Second place prizes will be awarded. Karaoke will follow at 8 p.m.  more
President DeEtta Gatton convened the February Dallas County Habitat for Humanity board meeting, following a cancellation of the January session due to inclement weather. Chris Gatton commenced with a prayer, setting the tone for the productive gathering.
Board Treasurer Stephanie Collins presented the financial report, spotlighting the generous contributions from various donors backing the ongoing home building project on Stanley Street. Noteworthy donations included a very generous personal contribution from Mr. G.T. Carr of Durham Corporation, along with substantial support from O’Bannon Bank and Old Missouri Bank. Main Street Realty's presentation of the Ozark Board of Realtors hefty donation in December also received grateful recognition.
The first construction committee report, delivered by Doug Arendt, highlighted the remarkable progress of Dallas County Technical Center students under instructor Tim Phillips' guidance at the Stanley Street site. Arendt noted the students' enthusiasm and pride in their on-site experience and training.
Construction Chairman Leroy Laudenbach reported on the successful February 13th Veterans Workday at the Stanley Street building site. Eighteen veteran volunteers from the VFW, DAV, AmVets, and others joined forces with DCTC students. Working together, they made amazing strides in building and raising exterior wall panels. Laudenbach said it was a joyful learning experience for all. more
At 2 a.m. on March 7, 2024, Veronica L. Key, 31, Springfield, was headed southbound in a 2013 Kia Forte when her vehicle ran off the road and overturned. Veronica suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Cox South in Springfield. The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene. Key was wearing a safety device. more
Madison G. McCarty, 20, Urbana, was headed southbound on US 65 Hwy., at MO 54 in Preston, in a 2013 Dodge Charger at 7:25 a.m. on March 5, 2024, when a 2015 Jeep Renegade driven by Andrew A. McCale, 36, Pittsburg, headed eastbound, pulled into her path. McCale, as well as two passengers riding with him, A juvenile, 2, Pittsburg, and Leah R. McCale, 44, Pittsburg, suffered moderate injuries and were transported to CMH in Bolivar by EMS. Both vehicles have extensive damage and all persons involved were wearing a safety device. more

Don Breithaupt is a good neighbor. One of the best — truly. I can attest to that because he is my neighbor. When I first moved to my new home in the Charity area in 1992, little did I know that a local boy would be moving back to his roots nearby in a few years. Don Breithaupt had grown up about a half a mile away from my new property. He had moved away for a while to establish his future career but always had a desire to return to the wooded area he roamed as a kid. In 1997 that dream became a reality and now he’s been living back home in Dallas County ever since. more
The Buffalo Board of Aldermen met for city council meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 11. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mayor Brandon Kenall and then he called the meeting to order. more
The DAV/DAVA Chapter 62 is sponsoring a Memorial Breakfast in memory of Richard Hrdlicka from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 15, 2024, at 1100 North Maple St., Buffalo. Proceeds from the breakfast are used to benefit the veterans in the community. Join for breakfast and bring friends and family. There will be a variety of breakfast foods and drinks to choose from. more
