Dr. Justin H. Yates has been hired as the new superintendent for the Hermitage R-4 School District.
Yates, a 1997 graduate of Skyline High School, is currently the junior high and high school principal at Salisbury R-4 School District, where he has been employed since 2016. In addition to the Salisbury R-4 School District, Yates was an English teacher for five years at the Richland R-4 School District and an English teacher for 10 years at the Camdenton R-3 School District. He also served as a high school soccer coach, freshman basketball coach, speech and theater teacher, and department chairman.
Yates is a graduate of Central Methodist University, Fayette, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English education in 2002. He went on to graduate from Lindenwood University in 2012 with a master’s degree in educational administration and in 2017 with a doctoral degree in educational administration.
Hermitage Board of Education President Darin Newman said, “Our district is looking forward to Dr. Yates continuing the excellence of the district and working with our dedicated staff. Dr. Yates has been selected from a strong list of candidates, and he was deemed to be the best fit for our school district. I feel the Board of Education has made a wise decision in choosing Dr. Yates.”
With a background in developing collaborative learning environments while working with multi-level committees to address student academic needs, Yates will continue to lead the district in a direction of student success, according to a news release. His knowledge of financial planning, project coordination and staff development — with a strong background in education research focusing on instructional improvement — will be assets to the school district.
“I am excited and honored to have been chosen as the new superintendent and look forward to working collaboratively with the school board, staff, parents and community,” said Yates, who is married with three children. “I am committed to providing all students with exceptional educational experiences, which will assist them with becoming productive members of an ever-changing global society.”
The Hermitage Board of Education announced a reception will be held from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the school so members of the community can meet the new superintendent. A reception for faculty and staff is planned for 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. Dec. 18. Refreshments will be provided.
The Hermitage R-4 School District’s search for a superintendent was supported by the Missouri Association of Rural Education.
Yates begins formal employment July 1, 2019, at Hermitage.
