Three of Buffalo’s runners at district were, from left, Drew Van Nostrand, Jacey Worley and Julia Horinek.

Buffalo’s girls cross country team had a good year, winning several meets, but came up short in the Class 3, District 6 meet Oct. 27 at Hollister. The team finished fourth, but they needed to place in the top two to advance to the state cross country meet.

Individually, a runner had to finish in the top 15 in order to advance to state, and Buffalo’s top finisher was Sydney Abercrombie, who was 19th with a time of 22:13.28.

Bolivar won the meet, Hollister was second and Aurora was third. The Lady Bison finished ahead of Nevada, Springfield Catholic and Monett.

Three more Buffalo runners finished right behind Abercrombie. Bailly Payne was 20th with a time of 22:23.10; Cheyann Kenady 21st at 22:25.15; and Drew Van Nostrand 22nd with a 22:28.31. Julia Horinek was three notches down at 25th with a time of 22:50.18.

Buffalo’s top boy runner was Silas Mabary, who finished 38th with a time of 19:24.28.
