Buffalo’s volleyball team swept Bolivar on Oct. 9 by defeating the varsity, junior varsity and freshman teams. The Lady Bison lost the first set of the varsity match 23-25, but came right back to win the next two, 25-13, 25-15.
“We came out without much intensity the first set,” Coach Carmen Smith said. “We led most of the game, but never took off. We had too many out of system balls so we couldn’t get our offense going. The second and third set the girls decided to play the way they know how and put the game away.”
Good passing was one of the keys, and Maddie Jacobs was solid on front and back row the entire match, Smith said.
The two setters, Brooke Jacobs and Lexi Jack, put up good sets for the hitter, and they earned 17 assists apiece.
“All the girls played together the last two sets, and it was fun to watch,” Smith said. “Bethany Lancaster and Delaney Miller were both hard to stop at the net, and after Madison Andrews snapped out of it from the first set, she was great on defense. Turned out to be a good night.”
The stats include Miller with 15 kills and 8 digs, and Lancaster with 12 kills. Andrews added 2 kills and 22 digs while Brooke Jacobs had 17 assists and 7 digs. Jack had 17 assists and 9 digs, and Grace Phillips pitched in with 4 digs. Courtney Austin had 2 kills and 1 dig, and Hannah Scurlock had 2 digs. Allison Mankey added one assist.
Buffalo’s JVs beat Bolivar 25-23, 25-21 and the Lady Bison freshmen won 25-17, 25-19.
