Dear Editor and Buffalo Reflex readers,

The pandemic of 2020 has reached Dallas County. One tried and true method for the control of this infection is wearing a mask. Yet, when I shop local I find many who do not wear masks even though the local Health Department, state government and federal government have asked us to do so.

I have found the residents of Dallas County to be generous with their time, monies and spirit when it comes to charitable causes. This is why I’m baffled.

We know our hospitals and health care workers are stressed and may not be there when we need them. We know that they have had to deploy mobile morgues to address the surge in Springfield. Wearing a mask is not about personal freedom, but rather respecting ourselves and one another. The effort is little, and the rewards are great.

So I implore you to take the effort to protect our families and community.

Thank you,

Kate Beckman,

Long Lane
