Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, First Baptist Church, Macks Creek, Mo. Burial in Macks Creek Cemetery, Macks Creek, under the direction of Hedges-Scott Funeral Home, Macks Creek. Visitation: 1 p.m. to service time at the church.

Donald Ray “Don” Varner, 84, was born March 5, 1934, in Macks Creek, the son of Clarence and Mary (Rogers) Varner. He died Oct. 21, 2018, at his home in Macks Creek.

On April 11, 1974, he was united in marriage with Judy Capps.

He worked as a funeral director for Hedges-Scott Funeral Homes for many years and oversaw the Macks Creek location.

He loved his church, First Baptist of Macks Creek, where he was a teacher to the youth and a great help in the church.

He and his wife did a complete genealogy study of the cemeteries in Camden County. He also greatly enjoyed taking road trips whenever he could.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Mary Varner; and son, David.

Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years, Judy, of the home; their children: John Varner and wife, Wanda, St. Joe, Mo., Layne Davis and wife, Angie, Macks Creek, Joel Davis, La Belle, Mo., and one daughter, Dana Varner, Platte City, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
