Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, Cantlon Otterness Funeral Home of Buffalo. Burial in Memorial Gardens of Memory. Visitation: Friends may call until 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Gladys Hendricks, 96, was born Aug. 1, 1919, in Buffalo, the daughter of Solomon C. and Mary A. (Coffelt) Sprague. She died Feb. 12, 2016, at Colonial Springs Healthcare Center, Buffalo.

She was reared and attended school in Buffalo.

As a young woman, she was united in marriage to Leo Brown, and to this union one son was born.

Later in life she was married to Oliver G. “Ollie” Hendricks in Mound City, Kan., and to this union one son was born. They made their home in Kansas City, Kan., where they owned and operated a bar and restaurant. In 1951 they moved to a farm near Buffalo, where they owned and operated the Bus Stop Cafe while operating the East Side Tavern, which they owned for 41 years.

She was saved at the age of 12 and was a member of First Baptist Church, where she attended regularly. She loved her Lord and Savior, and always enjoyed helping others.

She was well-known for her tenderloin sandwiches and fried chicken, and loved to walk for exercise.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oliver Hendricks Sr.; one son, Glen Dale Brown; and eight brothers: Ernie, Vernal, Burley, Luther, Albert, Arlie, Everet and Lonnie Sprague.

Survivors include her son, O.G. Jr. and wife, Mary Hendricks; seven grandchildren: Kyle, Kristen, Larry, Dale, Linda, Brenda and Bill; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and other family members and many friends who will all truly miss her.
