When Weston Owen and Aiden Meade both drilled 3-pointers for a 5-5 lead and Fair Grove led only 10-9 halfway through the opening quarter, fans might have thought this was going to be close game. However, the Eagles went on a 14-3 run to lead 24-12 at the end of the first, putting a blowout in clear sight. Ultimately Fair Grove ran away with the contest 70-39 and improved its record to 15-6. more
Skyline’s Emily Edwards is known for being a good 3-point shooter, but against Fair Grove on Thursday night she had zero points until the last three seconds of the game. But in what may have been the most important shot of her career, she drilled a 3-pointer with three seconds left on the clock to give the Lady Tigers a 49-46 lead, and that’s how the game ended. more

Macks Creek sophomore India Willis reached a milestone in her high school basketball career, recently scoring her 1,000th career point. Willis, who averaged 24.5 points per game as a freshman, has achieved this in just 44 games. more
Buffalo’s boys basketball team is continuing to build some momentum as district play approaches. The Bison won their third straight game Friday with a non-conference road victory at Clever 59-54 in overtime. more
Buffalo High School will host its annual Thundering Herd wresting tournament Saturday, Feb. 4, and teams from 19 schools will participate. more
Macks Creek girls easily won all three of their games in the Osceola Tournament last week to capture the tourney championship. In the process they improved their overall record to 14-5 and 2-1 in the Polk County League. more
Skyline’s boys basketball team lost all three games at the Clinton round-robin tournament last week, beginning with a 74-35 loss to Pleasant Hill in their opening game. Skyline trailed 25-9 at the quarter. Weston Owen was the only Skyline player to score in double figures with 11 points, while A.J. Dampier tallied eight points and Aiden Meade seven. Ricky Woodhouse added four, Tyler Henry three and Camden West two. more
Skyline’s girls basketball team split two games last week, losing to El Dorado Springs 71-63 and bombing Lamar 67-28. Both of these non-conference games were played at home. more
After losing to Lamar in the opening round of the Stockton Tournament, Buffalo’s boys basketball team moved to the consolation bracket and defeated New Covenant and Mt. Vernon. As a result, the Bison won fifth place in the tourney;. more
After losing to Miller in the opening round of the Stockton Tournament (see Jan. 18 issue) Buffalo’s girls basketball team moved to the consolation bracket and was supposed to play Mt. Vernon on Thursday. However, Mt. Vernon canceled the remainder of its season due to a shortage of players. Therefore the Lady Bison played Lamar Saturday for the consolation championship and lost 57-37. more
Fair Grove’s girls basketball team had little trouble winning the Osage Tournament last week as the Lady Eagles outscored three opponents 209 to 72, an average margin of 46 points per contest. It was the second tournament they have won in the pst two weeks having won the Skyline Tournament the week before. more
