Bison wrestlers battled tough this weekend in their District Tournament. Case Obernuefemann, Aiden Patrick, and Matthew Skinner made it to the consolation semifinals, better known to the wrestling community as the “blood round” due to the fact it is win or go home. Obernuefemann won his match and qualified for the state tournament, which will start on February 26 in Columbia. “It was heartbreaking to see Matt and Aiden’s season come to an end,” shares Head Coach Nick Whetzell. Skinner finished his first season of wrestling 33-15, and Patrick finished his senior season 26-22. Whetzell goes on to thank Patrick for his three years in the program, “We wish him nothing but the best as he moves forward from wrestling.”

Dylan Gonzalez, Keith Huxtable, Lucas Fletcher, Parker Darnell, Tyler Valma, and Zane Phelan are all underclassmen who gained valuable district experience and were able to get some wins. It was stated that seven out of nine that competed would return next wrestling season, along with wrestlers who did not compete due to injury. Whetzell finishes by saying, “Our staff and school are extremely proud of Case! He has put in a lot of work and has a natural curiosity to learn and grow in the sport.” This tournament puts Obernuefemann at 39-17 on the season.
