On March 13, 2024, at 11:40 a.m., on US 65 one half mile north of Buffalo, Belva Skinner, 68, Buffalo, was headed southbound in a 2009 Toyota Camry when she swerved to avoid a branch in the road. Skinner skidded across the center of the road and struck a 2014 GMC Acadia driven by Melinda J. Walton, 47, Springfield who had two passengers the ages of 15 and 16, also from Springfield. Skinner faced fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Walton suffered serious injuries and her passengers suffered moderate injuries. All three individuals were taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield. The impact totaled both vehicles and they were towed from the scene. Skinner was wearing a safety device, Walton and the two passengers were not. more

After years of pastoral vacancy, Pastor Jeff Sippy has accepted the call of shared ministry between Our Savior Luther Church, Buffalo, and Zion Lutheran Church of Bolivar. Sippy officially started on Sunday, March 10, with an installation service surrounded by members of both churches. Sippy will continue his Sundays leading the worship hour for Our Savior at 9 a.m. and follow by leading the worship hour for Zion Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. more
During 2023, New Growth Transit recorded 711 trips for Dallas County residents, free of charge. Those passengers traveled a total of 20,278 miles. more

Buffalo baseball coach Calvin Dryer is almost starting from scratch this year as the Bison have only two players returning who started in all 28 games last year. They have three more players who started some games and saw some varsity action in 2023. more
Buffalo’s girls softball team won 15 games last year, the most in several years, and second-year coach Amber Austin has nearly everybody back. In fact, eight starters are returning. more

The Dallas County R-I School district is pleased to announce the hire of Dr. Laura O’Quinn as the Deputy Superintendent for the 2024-2025 school year. The purpose of the Deputy position is to enable them to work alongside Dr. Tim Ryan for at least one year prior to his upcoming retirement. For DCR1 this will be the best method to ensure the upward trajectory continues long into the future. Dr. Ryan stated, “Laura. O’Quinn has an amazing skill set and is certainly ready to step into the Superintendent role. We are confident in her ability to keep our Dallas County Schools moving in a positive direction for many years to come”.  more

The Buffalo Garden Club held their February meeting on Thursday the 22nd.  The members attending were; Lisa Blake, Cecilia Dixon, Lenora Erb, Shirley Hyatt, Pam Meyer, Kim Rutherford, Jeanie Smith, Hope Stubbs, Liz Van Dee, and Janet Wood. The roll call question was; Do you have a gardening/landscape plan for this season? There were a variety of answers and reasons for them. A few planned to down size their gardens and some were going to plant in pots. Lack of regular rain was a big reason for this change. Other plans were to plant perennials to replace some decorative trees. more
