Betty Jean (Baker) Mallard

Betty Jean (Baker) Mallard passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2020. Though she had many complications that come with living just over ninety years, she passed peacefully.

Betty was born January 23, 1930. She was married to Ellis Mallard on June 12, 1947. They shared 70 years and three children together, Ron, Christie and Steve.

Shortly after Ron was born, they moved to Kansas City, MO in the early 1950s. In 1966, they moved to Maryland for Ellis’ work. In 1972 they built their home and moved to Sedalia, MO where they resided until after Ellis’ death. Betty moved to Good Samaritan Care Center in March 2018.

Betty worked in the home as a wife and mother. She served her Lord as Sunday School and Children’s Church Teacher and sometimes pianist. Many lifelong friendships originated through the Southern Baptist churches they belonged to throughout the years. Of late, she was a member of First Baptist Church, Sedalia. She especially cherished her Bible Study friends and the times they were able to gather in her living room.

Betty was preceded in death by her late husband, Ellis; her brother, Bill Baker; and grandson-in-law, John Braun.

She is survived by her children, Ron and Judy Mallard, Christie and Rex Johnson, Steve and Tracy Mallard; her brother, Jim, his wife, Verla and family; her grandchildren, Jon Mallard, Jackie and Brady Stephens, Chuck and Lisa Johnson, Sarah Braun, Trevor and Lauren Mallard and Gabbi Mallard; eight great-grandchildren, Eve and Sam Mallard, Mia and Maci Stephens, Nolan, Brilee and Jake Johnson and Jaxon Braun; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held from 6:00-7:30 pm, Thursday, May 21 at First Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life service was held at 11:00 am, Friday, May 22 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Francis O’Donnell and Rev. Greg Morrow officiating.

Interment was held in Highland Sacred Gardens. Pallbearers were Mike Baker, Chuck Johnson, Nolan Johnson, Jon Mallard, Sam Mallard, Trevor Mallard, Brady Stephens and Ed Mallard.

The family suggests contributions to the First Baptist Church Sedalia Memorial or Youth Fund in care of Heckart Funeral Home.
