woof for vets

Pictured are four veterans who were presented with a Labrador retriever puppy, donated by a purebred dog breeder and member of the Missouri Pet Breeders Association.

Woof for Vets founders Sue Swanigan and Beverly Simmons were guests on Aug. 4 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4107, Lebanon. A special ceremony was held for veterans who had applied for a dog.

Post Quartermaster Keith Stoltenow presided over the ceremony and surprised Eddie, a member of Post 4107, with a furry companion. Each veteran was asked to come forward and was presented with a beautiful, healthy Labrador retriever pup.

To apply, veterans fill out an application with Woof for Vets and choose what dog breed(s) they would like. Veteran dog owners are referred to Pamela, professional dog trainer, and she provides free dog training for veterans.

KY3 interviewed the veterans and included Woof for Vets and VFW Post 4107 on the evening news.

Everything that Woof for Vets does is free of charge for the veterans.
