Fair Grove’s boys soccer team has an outstanding 13-5-1 record this year and has been breaking individual records at the same time. Senior Maicol Newkirk has set a Fair Grove career record with 97 goals, and also has the single season record of 34 goals this year.
Recent victories include a 4-2 win over New Covenant, which is a very good team, and the Eagles beat Thomas Jefferson 7-3 on Senior Night. Kyle Stacey, who has 30 goals this year, led the way with four goals and one assist. Newkirk had two goals and one assist and Dylan Mooneyham picked up one goal. Michael Stineke and Shain Lahey each executed two assists.
A 7-1 win over Lebanon also was big, with Kyle Stacey racking up a pair of goals and one assist; Newkirk two goals and one assist; Kameron Stacey one goal; and a goal each by Josh Orr and Tyler Padgett. Andrew Shurtz had one assist.
The Eagles defeated Crocker 5-2.
“A great game by Kam Stacey as sweeper,” said Coach Joseph Florez. “Good team defense and focus in the midfield, with nice finishing on top.”
Fair Grove’s winning streak was broken by Marshfield 7-6 on Thursday, but the Blue Jays had to go to overtime to do it. Newkirk and Kyle Stacey each scored three goals in the contest.
