Jean Fern Russell, 86, was born Nov. 26, 1929, in Amsterdam, the daughter of Jesse Thomas and Ruby Fern (Summers) Gregory. She died May 9, 2016, at her home in Buffalo.

She was one of 12 children who grew up in Amsterdam and graduated from Amsterdam High School in 1947.

She was united in marriage with Robert Russell on Aug. 20, 1948, in Kansas City.

After living briefly in Washington and Nebraska, they settled in 1958 in Lees Summit, where they raised their children for 19 years before moving back to Amsterdam.

She attended the Amsterdam United Methodist Church. 

After the death of her husband, she moved to Buffalo and attended the Buffalo United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed singing, cross-stitching, quilting and spending time with her grandchildren. In her younger years, she liked boating and waterskiing.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers: N.D., J.B., Jack and Butch; and three sisters: Nina, Doris and Nadine.

Survivors include her son, Zane M. and wife, Dana Russell, Lake Lotawana; her daughter, Robin D. and husband, Dennis Lacy, Meriden, Kan.; one brother, Willis “Pod” and wife, Karen Gregory, Amsterdam; three sisters: Junie Porter, Grand Island, Neb., Ila Faye and husband, Richard McMeins, Mount Ayr, Iowa, and Hope Blake, Buffalo; three grandchildren: Jo, Garrett and Haley; and four great-grandchildren.
