The Skyline football team easily won its first game of the Class 1, District 2 tournament 62-12 over Ash Grove on Friday, Oct. 26. The Tigers scored a touchdown just 17 seconds into the first quarter, and they never gave up their lead throughout the rest of the match.

Buffalo’s volleyball team finished in second place in the newly formed Ozark Mountain Conference, barely behind champion El Dorado Springs. The Lady Bison’s season ended Monday night, however, with a loss to California in the opening round of the district tournament.

Following a tight opening quarter, Strafford shifted to high gear and rolled past Skyline 38-14 Friday night in a Mid-Lakes Conference football game at Urbana. The Indians are now 6-1 overall and 2-1 in conference and will play at Forsyth this Friday in their final conference game.

Fair Grove’s state-ranked football team traveled to Butler Friday night and led 40-0 at the half. The Eagles cruised to a 46-6 win, improving their record to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the Mid-Lakes Conference. They won the conference championship with a victory over Strafford last week.

Fair Grove’s boys soccer team has an outstanding 13-5-1 record this year and has been breaking individual records at the same time. Senior Maicol Newkirk has set a Fair Grove career record with 97 goals, and also has the single season record of 34 goals this year.

It’s district tournament time for softball, and sixth-seeded Buffalo begins play today (Wednesday) against third-seeded Bolivar at Logan-Rogersville High School. It’s a tough district in that none of the six teams had losing records, at least at the time of the seeding meeting.
