Dallas County and the Civil War

Henry Gray True, Steven Nineva Harmon, Lorenzo Dow Owensby (named after the famous preacher of that era), and John Moses Bennett Jr. were their names. The year was 1861. Henry and Steven lived on farms on the north side of Dallas County in the area west of Tunas, Missouri. Henry was about thirty-six years old in 1861, and Steven was around sixty. Lorenzo and John lived on farms south of the town of Buffalo. They were both about twenty-four years old. There is no evidence the four men knew each other when the war started in April 1861, although trips to the town square in Buffalo for goods and news of war events may have allowed early acquaintances to develop.
