Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, Carmel United Methodist Church, 621 S. Range Line Road, Carmel, Ind., under the direction of Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel, Fishers, Ind.

Visitation: 4 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

The Revs. Greg McGarvey and Jack King will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the Interfaith Hospitality Network, Carmel United Methodist Church, NAMI Indianapolis or Broad Ripple Sertoma Club.

Dr. G. Dean Lindsey, 80, Carmel, Inc., was born Sept. 25, 1932, in Urbana, the son of Frost and Elsie (Howard) Lindsey. He died July 26, 2013.

He graduated from Urbana High School and farmed for one year. He enrolled at the University of Missouri, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in agriculture and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Sigma Fraternity.    

He was united in marriage with the love of his life, Ruth A. Alexander, on Sept. 27, 1958.

He served two years with the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service Center for Disease Control. He also spent 30 years working for Elanco Animal Health, a Division of Eli Lilly & Co., retiring in 1993.

He served as president of what is now known as the American Association of Public and Corporate Veterinarians and was named Industrial Veterinarian of the Year. He was founder and charter president of the Indianapolis Interfaith Hospitality Network/Family Promise, which provides hospitality to homeless families in cooperation with approximately 30 Indianapolis congregations. A member of the Broad Ripple Sertoma Club, he served as president one year, was named Sertoman of the Year and was granted the Service to Mankind Award. He also served as president of the Carmel-Clay Educational Foundation.  He was very active at Carmel United Methodist Church for 47 years, serving in a number of leadership roles. In addition, he was a participating member of the Indianapolis Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Howard F. and Henry W. Lindsey; and two sisters: Mary E. Armstrong and Mildred L. Davidson.

Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 55 years, Ruth A. Lindsey; his children: Neal Dean Lindsey and Leah Ruth and husband, Jeffrey Cannon; three grandchildren: Colton Jeffrey, Dean William and Declan James Cannon; a sister, Irma F. Camp; and several nieces and nephews.
