Gold was a post office in Polk County, just west of the Dallas County line on what is now Mo. 215. It is one half-mile east of where Tin Town is. It served many people in Dallas County. When we purchased our home in 1966, there was a small building behind the house. We called it a “smokehouse.” Later after it was torn down, we were told that it was the old Gold Post Office that had sat in the northeast corner of our property, which was by the Dallas County line. The building had been moved across the road from the property on the north side of the road. The Gold office was only in use for 15 years when it was discontinued and the mail was sent to the Red Top Post Office. That office continued for many years and then was discontinued and it became Route 3 of the Buffalo office. The Buffalo office serves many people in the Tin Town area of Polk County that was Red Top and Gold previously.
