Each February, the state of Missouri observes Earthquake Awareness Month to emphasize the chance of a major earthquake occurring in the New Madrid Seismic Zone and the importance of being prepared. With the recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria claiming tens of thousands of lives, this year’s Earthquake Awareness Month takes on even more urgency.
