On Sunday, Aug. 7, family, friends and community members came together to help Scott Miller, the son of Valorie Beck, bring some light to his mom’s life. Beck has been battling stage 4 cancer for six years. Beck is the owner of Headlines Beauty Shop in Urbana (which until recently has closed its doors for the time being). Miller wanted to do something for her to cheer her up, so the word was spread to everyone to see if they would donate Christmas lights. He wanted to light up her house with the colorful lights to show love and support, and how much she has been a shining light and an inspiration in so many people’s lives. Beck’s family says that her strong faith in God is what she has held onto throughout her life, but especially the past six years. Her positivity and the joy she spreads have blessed so many people. She will keep fighting this battle so she can continue to shine her light for God’s kingdom. A spaghetti benefit dinner is planned for 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 20 at Skyline Elementary School.
