Members of the Buffalo Bubbly Red Hat witches donned their Halloween outfits. They started the progressive lunch at 11 a.m. at Expresso No. 825 with fancy drinks, traveling to the Catfish House for various appetizers. A short flight across the parking lot landed them with a slice of pizza from Hip Pocket Pizza, where this photo was conjured. After a few scares at local retailers, the witches refueled at Los Hermanos Mexican Restaurant with their favorite Mexican Day of the Dead treats. The next hop was to MexAFino, where they had more appetizers and good conversation. The final stop was at GEM’s Restaurant to feast on pies made by Sue Percival. The group then dispersed to their broomsticks to travel to Queen Mother’s house to enjoy the movie Hocus Locus and pumpkin guts goulash and play scary games. The group met a white hat witch who joined the group at the first stop, Layla Henderson.

The Strictly Kaos travel softball team has a 6-1 fall record so far. The team won its first tournament the weekend of Oct. 8 at Ballparks National in Macks Creek. Strictly Kaos won the first game 8-7 and the second game 13-6. The team also won second place in the Springfield fall league last month. Ray and Virginia Bolin recently donated a beautiful quilt to Dallas County Library. Pieced by Virginia and quilted by Ray, it was created from a pattern found in the library book “Bachelor’s Puzzle” by Judith Pella. It measures 69-by-82 inches and can be seen at the library during regular business hours. Tickets for a chance to win the quilt are $3 each or two for $5. A winner will be drawn Nov. 21.
