First, the Scarecrow wants a brain because he demonstrates a dim-witted persona. The Tin Woodman wants a heart to be able to love and to feel emotions like love, joy, and compassion. The Lion wants a dose of courage because he is a coward, like many of us, and grapples with fear. more

It is amazing what I run across on Springfield, Missouri History, Landmarks and Vintage Photography's Facebook site. What I'm sharing today is about the smokestack I believe Grandpa worked on. Rex Trantham, my aunt Mildred's oldest son, said Dad Owen (John S. Owen - Mom's dad), and the boys (Doc and John) worked on WPA projects. One was the smokestack that sat in the Frisco yards located near the Frisco depot, on Main, close to Water Street. It was about two or three city blocks west, and was laid in big, red baked brick—not regular house brick. Those were about 8 inches high and 10 to 12 inches long. more

Last week, the Buffalo Post Office reported that their 2025 Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, held May 5 through May 10, was a huge success. Mail carriers collected donations from area customers, and some patrons brought their donations to the post office. Three full-sized truckloads, totalling 3,385 pounds of non-perishable food items like beans, rice, pasta and canned goods were collected, more than doubling last year’s donations, which weighed out at 1,512 pounds. The food collected in Buffalo was delivered to—and will be distributed by—OACAC. more
