I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. To accommodate every member of our family, we had our traditional meal on Friday, with turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, green beans and dessert. On the actual Thanksgiving Day, I traveled to Springfield to my daughter's house for Steaksgiving. Yes, my son-in-law grilled steak, which was served with several side dishes. It was all very good. more

In November, DIVAS met with guest speaker Dr. Taylor Pederson. She presented information about the new domestic violence center, The Bright Beacon. more
Show Me Romey Foundation held their annual gala in Springfield where they raised over 100k for the locally founded not-for-profit autism awareness foundation. They held a live and silent auction along with dinner and live bands. They had 330 people in attendance. more

Support the Troops and the DAVA packed the troops' Christmas boxes Tuesday, Nov. 26, and headed to the post office. Volunteers loaded the 35 medium-sized flat-rate boxes that bulged with health and beauty items, food, candy, and entertainment items into Granny Painter’s car. At the post office, the clerks were ready for her with carts to carry the packages inside. Two heaping carts and an armload got the boxes into the post office’s care. They are stamped with the postal services’ Breast Cancer Research Awareness stamps, which community members donated for the Support the Troops’ cause through the month of October. more

The week before Thanksgiving, seven volunteers from Dallas County, Missouri, traveled to Madison County, North Carolina, to assist victims of Hurricane Helene. The group was organized by Dallas County Habitat for Humanity volunteers, Tony and Jan Neubauer of Long Lane, Missouri. They were moved by reports of people who had lost everything in the storm and were still living in tents as winter approached. more
