One of the most inviting and popular places in Dallas County is located at 90 Golf Course Road, Buffalo. Dream Valley Golf Course celebrates a 30 year anniversary this year. Designed and built by Owen and Karen Kjar in 1994, the 18-hole course has been owned and operated by four Knights since April 2019. This past year on December 22, the course suffered loss with a major fire that destroyed the golf cart barn along with 53 golf carts, but the recreational outlet has continued a strong business with the support of community and many golf enthusiasts. more

Mark Burchfield with the National Weather Service presented Dallas County Emergency Management with a certificate stating that Dallas County is now a “Storm Ready” community. more
The Buffalo City Fire & Rescue in conjunction with the University of Missouri Extension Division Fire and Rescue Training Institute hosted an Introduction to Fire Service training on June 8-9 in the parking area at Superior Gearbox in Buffalo. The two-day, all-day training was offered to the local area of fire departments, that included Buffalo Rural, Long Lane, Louisburg, Urbana, Tunas, Pittsburg and more. This specific training according to Buffalo City Fire Chief Greg Cunningham is the “nuts and bolts” of beginning training. more
In my mountain of stuff, I tried to find the newspaper clipping about the swap meet held at the livery stable located west of the Fair Grove square. The time period would have been in the late 1970s to early 1980s, because my children were young.  more

This German Shorthaired Pointer isn’t any ordinary dog; he is a commissioned peace officer just like his handler, Andrew Feistel. Since March 2023, this dog, Titan, has been helping the Southwest Missouri Conservation Department in a variety of ways: wildlife detection, gunpowder detection, human scent tracking, and article detection. Titan and Andrew have worked together for just over a year now and have been popular with students in Buffalo when they get to demonstrate their work. more
The Yard of the Month for June is at 573 Morrow, the home of Pam and Gary Miller. Their property is nicely groomed and maintained. It is clear that they have paid particular attention to the visual enjoyment in their yard. There is also a wonderful variety of habitats for the various birds. Pam pays close attention to planting native species to attract the birds and butterflies to her yard. This is a yard that shows pride in our community. more

At 5: 30 p.m. on June 5, 2024, Lora K. Strong, 55, Lebanon, was headed west on Hwy. 32, three miles east of Buffalo, in a 2011 Nissan Rogue. Strong was struck head-on by Wade M. Harris, 61, Collins, in a 2001 Buick Le Sabre after Harris failed to yield and attempted to make a left turn. Strong suffered minor injuries and was taken to Mercy Hospital in Lebanon. Both vehicles faced moderate damage and were towed from the scene. Both drivers were wearing safety devices. more
At 6:50 p.m. on June 4, 2024, Nicole M. Acord, 43, Tunas, was headed northbound on US 65, five miles north of Fair Grove, in a 1997 Dodge Pickup when she was rear-ended by Ryan M. Heathman, 44, Nevada, in a 2017 Dodge Ram. Acord suffered minor injuries and was transported to CMH in Bolivar by ambulance. Both vehicles had moderate damage. Both drivers were wearing safety devices. more

At 9:42 a.m., on June 2, 2024, Jennifer S. Murray, 65, Holt Summit, was headed northbound on Hwy. 65, 5 miles north of Fair Grove, while driving a 2008 Honda Gold Wing, when the vehicle struck a deer in the roadway. The impact totaled the vehicle and it was towed. Murray suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Cox South in Springfield. It is unknown if the driver was wearing a safety device. more
