Teachers who teach children in elementary school have the most outstanding jobs. Sure, there are dirty, smelly kids after gym and recess. Multiple messes to clean up every day are just a part of the fun of going home every day with the satisfaction of knowing they are helping to mold the future.

Early in the morning on Saturday, August 31, 2024, Corporal Talon Farrar with the Buffalo Police Department observed two vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on US 65. According to the BPD’s Facebook, One of the vehicles, driven by Chase Medcalf, attempted to pass another vehicle using the turn lane. Cpl. Farrar immediately activated his emergency lights and sirens, but the driver failed to yield. Moments later, the vehicle ran off the roadway and came to a stop. Medcalf showed clear signs of impairment, was given Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFST), and was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI).

This October, Bennett Spring will be celebrating its 100th anniversary. For many of our community members, Bennett Spring is our little way to escape the stress in our lives. Whether you go there to do some trout fishing, go for a scenic hike, or learn about the nature around us, we all have memories from our local state park. But we never take time to see what goes on behind the scenes and see what happens to take care of our little piece of peace.

The Dallas County Habitat for Humanity held its August board meeting at its office on North Maple Street, where preparations for the upcoming Fall Rummage Sale were a top priority. The meeting, led by President DeEtta Gatton, began with a prayer by board member LeRoy Laudenbach.

The Buffalo City Board of Aldermen met at 7 p.m. on Monday, August 16, 2024, in the Buffalo Municipal Building at 119 S. Maple St. Present were: Mayor Brandon Kenall; Administrative Assistant Martha Swearingin; City Clerk Mandy Wecker; and all aldermen that include Terry Lane, Scott Decker, Bret Viets, Brandon Stewart, Ron Park, and Lonnie Glor.

“If you see someone coming with lights and sirens, slow down, pull to the right, and stop.” That’s the number one thing Explorer Fire Captain, Lucas Cole, of the Southern Dallas County Fire Protection District (SDCFPD) would ask the world to do to make the job of firefighters and rescuers easier. “It could help us respond more quickly and possibly save lives and property.”
