The softball size hail damage that came to the small community of Urbana was difficult for many. First Baptist Church of Urbana just completed an entire renovation of their worship facility and major reconstruction of a passageway between their worship facility and their Gym/Fellowship Facility. The trustees and finance committee worked with the Titan Roofing company out of Springfield to work with the insurance company, Brotherhood Mutual Insurance, that allowed the $125,000 project to complete both roofs with metal, replace all guttering, repair interior damage to gym, and replace windows that were damaged. The church still plans to proceed by faith to renovate the gym floor and finish the basement to complete the renovation of the church. The church dedicated the work to the glory of God in a morning service held October 29th. more
After a dry year and last summer's drought, members of the Dallas County Cattlemen's Association (DCCA) welcomed remarks from an expert on how to improve their pastures at the group's Nov. 14th meeting held at Prairie Grove School. Brant Mettler, Corteva territory manager, offered strategies on pasture management and weed control to the 140 in attendance. more
The University of Missouri Extension 4-H is in the process of forming a new 4-H Club in Buffalo. There will be an informational meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 27, at Grace Community Church, 1652 S. Ash St. in Buffalo. more

At the November 13, 2023 Board of Aldermen meeting, Officer Chad Garner was sworn into the office of Buffalo police chief by City Clerk Talia Nelson. Garner recited a speech thanking the Board for the opportunity to serve the community, he grew up in and loves, as the city’s police chief. more

Mallory PTO is hosting pictures with Santa from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on December 16 at Mallory Elementary. Sage Photography will be set up in the library taking photos with Santa. There will be milk and cookies in the cafeteria along with some coloring pages and a station to write your wishlist to Santa. There is a $5 entry fee at the door. more
At 12:49 p.m. on November 18, 2023, Tyler P. Parnosky, 20, Buffalo, was headed north on U.S. Hwy. 65 in Greene County, 1 mile south of Fair Grove, in a 2018 Chevrolet Impala when he struck the rear of a 2023 Toyota RAV4 driven by Thomas R. Shewmaker, 70, Buffalo. Parnosky went off the right side of the road and struck several trees. The Chevrolet Impala was totaled and the Toyota RAV4 faced moderate damage. Parnosky suffered from minor injuries and was taken to Citizens Memorial Hospital, Bolivar. It is unknown if Parnosky was wearing a safety device, however, Shewmaker was wearing a safety device. more
At 11:39 a.m. on November 19, 2023, on U.S. Hwy. 65, five miles south of Buffalo, Melody K. Thomas, 52, Long Lane, was driving a 1989 Ford Ranger northbound when her vehicle traveled onto the right shoulder and overcorrected. The vehicle skidded into the median and overturned, ejecting all occupants inside. The Ford Ranger came to rest on its top, west of southbound on U.S. 65. Thomas had 3 passengers in the vehicle: David C. Van Nostrand, 28; Ken D. Van Nostrand, 48; and Kevin L. Van Nostrand, 48. All occupants were from Long Lane. Kevin and Melody faced fatal injuries and were pronounced dead. Ken and David suffered severe injuries and were taken to Mercy Hospital, Springfield. It is unknown if the driver or occupants were wearing a safety device. more
